11/04 - 11-05, 2007

-* PLDT DSL connection 2 down. Called their helpdesk but was really of no help. We use rasppoe as the dialer to connect the dsl line, by the afternoon we still cant connect. I tried to reconfigure the rasppoe and made it to recognize again the dsl connection and yes it did and created another instance of the dialer. It connected. But after an hour or two, it wont connect again. WTF. And DSL connection 1 also had the same problem. That was when I noticed the fast blinking of led lights of the switches specifically the Linksys router/4 port switch, the Wireless Access Point and the 24 port 3Com switch. It's like a denial of service attack! What I did is unplug the cat 5 cable from proxy server 2 (w/ DSL connection2) to the 24 port switch and yes the fast blinking stop. Initiated a virus scan and online scan from ewido.net on the proxy to check for viruses and malware. No serious threat found and proceed to plug the cable. All seems normal again.

-* Visited some computer dealers and an ISP to gather/collect info about VOIP. It seems our boss is very much interested about it. We first visited a well known computer dealer but got no useful info aside from a brochure and referral to a product distributor. Next, we visited a well known ISP but their proposal is expensive and beyond our budget, also their technical staff still lack the necessary knowledge on VOIP. After lunch we visited another known dealer, result - still the same, no clear answer on what we want to know. Last stop, the product distributor. This time we got some clear answers, why didn't we come here before.

-* 11-05 AM. The pc of the finance chief wont turn on but the monitor is ok. Transferred the avr plug to the prompt outlet and it turned on. Clock is out of sync as well as that of rmd manager. Recommend to change the cmos battery (CR2032).
